How do RFID tags work?

The tag is attached to the object that needs to be identified. The reader sends out electromagnetic waves that activate the tag so it can exchange data. The antenna enables the reader to transmit and receive data from the tag.

When an RFID tag passes within range of an activated antenna, it detects the activation signal from the antenna. The tag then modulates the signal and reflects it back to the antenna with the tag's data. The reader receives this modulated signal and decodes the data. The information is then passed to a computer software system for processing.
